Red Apple is no-frills, good take-out. The inside is grubby and sparse so don't eat in, and the bathroom looks like The Worst Toilet in Scotland, but their hot and sour soup is both actually hot AND sour, which is somehow tough to come by in this city. Moo Shu Pork is the best freaking thing on the menu and oh my god do they give you, just, a TON of it.

Good, cheap and close to home. What more could you want?

This place is cheap and close to home. The food isn't amazing, but it certainly is better than a lot of other Chinese food spots in my neighborhood. Delivery hasn't been an issue because I can just walk and pick it up. Reasonably priced for the massive amount of decent food they give you. Bring on the msg.

Basic Chinese take-out East Coast style. The Hot and Sour Soup is as good as any in New York City, my old home town and for $4.50 for a quart it's one of the best bargains in NOLA.. Mr. Lee runs a tight ship in the hood and knows what he's doing. Nothing fancy- stick to the basics. Ingredients are fresh and the kitchen is very clean. Very glad Red Apple is close to home. I'm a regular. 5-Stars for the soup and for what it is, it does great.

its all good in da hood. considering the amount of "chinese" restaurants in the st roch area, this one, is the freshest. staff is friendly, and lots of variety. they do a lovely sweet and sour soup for those days when your not feeling well. the sesame chicken, is HUGE, and the steamed dumplings are spot on. I like gen tso chicken, and the shrimp with lobster sauce. this place is your standard fare, and you don't have to order from the "bullet proof" window, like the chinese spot just cross the street. NO BS here, clean kitchen, fresh food, made to order. you can also do your laundry next door while dining.

Singapore noodles were So Great! Egg Foo Young- Loved it. Fried rice was not worth too exciting. Also had sechuwan bean curd. The sauces were perfect in all the dishes. Wish I had a place like this where I live.

Three stars for the quality. Extra star for the price and the portions. I moved to the neighborhood a couple of years ago, and as it tends to go, everything was a shambles and I still couldn't use my kitchen a month after moving in. I got a cold and needed soup. A neighbor recommended this place and I was not disappointed. Good hot & sour soup. More mushrooms/veggies in there than in a lot of places' hot & sour soup, and it had a decent level of spiciness. Usually I get a massive MSG reaction, and I was expecting to have one this time, but in fact there thankfully was none. When I went in to pick it up, they were finishing it and I saw them actually stirring ingredients in and cracking eggs into the broth, so it;s not a massive pre-made batch of glop like you find in other places. I also ordered crab rangoons (I was sick; don't judge) and whereas the Chinese place near my old apartment uptown gave you an order of 4, let me tell ya, there were 8 massive crispy, crabby, cream-cheesy hunks of fried joy in that little wax bag. And it was cheaper than the old place, too. I went back for more hot & sour soup a few days later and a large soup was under $5 with tax. Not only that--and perhaps I'm deceiving myself by hoping its so--the soup was ready in 10 minutes, not 2, which again was evidence that they had to do something more than just than scoop & nuke. So yeah, I didn't get any real food yet but I have freinds that did and they said they loved it. I just always get soup and sometimes rangoons. And I'll totally keep doing so.

Excellent greasy spoon Chinese. Had a few veg friendly dishes. We had enough left over for a second meal.

Not bad. OK basic Chinese food. We had the Sweet & Sour Chicken and the Sweet & Sour Shrimp. Portions are large, the rice was tasty and the egg roll was also decent. A good cheap option if you don't feel like cooking and live in the area. That being said, we tried Dragon King last night and the food was fantastic, the place was squeeky clean and cute and the value was outstanding. We'll be driving the 13 minutes from the house to pick up takeout Chinese from Dragon King rather than go to this place.

Sucks that they don't deliver. However being from NYC this is the closest to Chinatown Chinese food I've had shofar down in New Orleans. Their steamed dumplings were delicious as well as their general tso's chicken...also they take credit cards! I know where to go now when I'm drunk, hungover or lazy and need a superior dose of high quality msg!

One Monday I had the most amazing hangover after over celebrating a Saints victory and a Tim Tebow win. I set out on a quest. A very lazy quest mind you because I didn't want to get too far from my house. I needed what everyone needs with a hangover, a sports drink and Chinese food. This quest is a hefty one due to me being from the Bywater. I had the determination of a honey badger though. I refused to use my Yelp app or map on my phone. I would go blind into grave danger to find such a place. Would railroad tracks stop me, I say nay! Once I came to Franklin, I knew there were places down there with food. Even if I gave up on the Chinese quest, I could get something. I saw The Red Apple. This place looked like a fast food type of joint, so I proceeded with caution. Their menu was mind boggling, but I had to try my best. I stuck with what I know, and order of General Chicken. The wait seemed long, but I know that was the hang over speaking. The total was $7.00... $7.00 for a monster mound of food. Then I think to myself, "This has to taste awful!" I finally conclude my quest by getting home. Now it was time to get my spoils. The food was delicious. It did not taste like fast food Chinese at all. If you live out in Bywater area, this is your best option. I've been there 3 times and I've yet to be disappointed. Also, is it sad if I want to eat here and have a few drinks while playing video poker. Getting a taxi to bring you back from this place would be epic. I think I have a new quest.

This place is not terrible, but nothing really remarkable either. I was craving Chinese food on a Sunday afternoon and really didn't want to leave the Marigny/ Bywater to fill my craving and decided it was time to give this place a try. It's totally worth it to drive out of the neighborhood to get some better Chinese food! The portions were large, which were great for leftovers, but they were mediocre leftovers. I ordered the shrimp fried rice, veggie lo mein, sweet and sour chicken, and an order of crab rangoons. The sweet and sour chicken was just typical Chinese fast food fare and I had no complaints there. It came in one size and was huge, so we definitely had more than enough and it tasted fine the next day after toasting it in the oven for a couple of minutes. The crab rangoons had no actual crab meat in sight and were just cream cheese filled wontons that were folded over and deep fried into triangles instead of their usual wonton shape. The lo mein was okay, again, nothing remarkable in flavor, but it was the fried rice that was terrible. It was made with those tiny, gummy shrimp that looked like they were re-hydrated in water before getting tossed into the rice.

3 good stars for standard american chinese cuisine. They don't deliver, but it's a short bike ride from the marigny/bywater. I had a general tso's combo with fried rice and egg roll for $6.95. It wasn't great or out of the ordinary, but was good. It was fresh. I will go back whenever I'm craving chinese, or just want cheap food.

This is the go-to place for Chinese take out for the Bywater, Marigny, St. Claude, St Roch area as far as I'm concerned. The veggies always seem really fresh, the food is always hot, and the flavors are great. My only complaint is they don't seem to use bamboo shoots or water chestnuts in any of their dishes. The sauce on their ribs is awesome, by the way. Definitely worth a try.

i guess i'm just spoiled. i live three blocks from the international district in seattle. here i can find endless amounts of amazing, fresh, delicious asian cuisine. with red apple, i was quite disappointed with my food. tasteless. i got the general tso chicken, upon recommendation of another yelper. blah. you're better of with a po-boy or some fried chicken from hanks.

Good Chinese delivery, food was fresh and service prompt. Fairly standard menu, we liked our General Cho's Chicken, Hunan Shrimp, and Lo Mein.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
